Sketchable Artisan Spotlight: Lawrence Mann
“It’s invaluable. I need something that ‘just works’ and Sketchable is that app.” Lawrence Mann, a Freelance Digital Artist based in the UK, came to Sketchable early on, helping with the UI and even creating the Sketchable logo. With a career spanning over twenty years, Lawrence has worked for the likes of Sony, Egmont, Microsoft, Mattel, and the BBC. He believes that illustrations should tell a good story, encouraging the viewers to read into and embellish the media. His background in advertising gave him the ability to look at art as a marketing tool rather than just as a “pretty picture.”
Lawrence entered the world of digital art in the early 1990s when technology for artists first became accessible to the public. His aim, to become a part of the community developing and helping the tech to evolve – not just for himself but for the next generation of creatives. That’s why he always takes the time to Beta-test and demo new software & hardware, working with new companies to offer feedback and advice. This is how Lawrence found Sketchable, eventually becoming a Sketchable artisan.
With a diversity of clients, Lawrence must work across multiple devices by every brand imaginable. He says that “while other apps can be slow on mobile devices or cumbersome with their UI – Sketchable is great for getting ideas down and making clients happy quickly.” On his YouTube channel, @LAWRENCEcanDraw, he regularly emphasizes Sketchable’s quickness and versatility for daily sketching.
A life-long learner, Lawrence is moving to 3D sculpting for 2019 with a desire to help Sketchable and his skillset grow. He says, “having a lot of different skills makes us appreciate each one more and makes appreciate each other’s talents more as well.”
